My question for you, is do you keep a diary?
I have to admit, I have entries dating back years but they’re very sporadic. I used to go through spells where I would capture everything and then there were months and years for when I have no record at all.
Since I decided that it was time for me to take charge of my destiny and follow my dreams, I have kept a diary and write in it as much as I can every day.
The reason I’m telling you this, is because tonight in between Matt reading the fourth book of the night before bedtime and bath time, I came across one of my old diaries from last year and started reading the entries.
There were days recorded where I didn’t feel as if I was making much progress, and days of celebration and joy. But most of all what shone through from those pages was lots of hope and an unwavering belief about the amazing journey on which I was about to embark.
There’s not a day that goes by that I’m not bowled over by how lucky I am, or how grateful I am that I’m here. Here, surrounded by my gorgeous family and friends and having the chance to follow my dreams.
Most of all I’m just incredibly grateful to be a mum.
To have a chance to see J grow and learn and explore. Day by day. Moment by moment.
Each one as fleeting as the next.
Childhood is so precious and as parents I believe we need to do all we can to preserve it for as long as possible.
To make those bed time stories last a bit longer, for one more imaginary cup of tea to be poured, and one more day of waving to the ice cream man.
And it’s these moments that I capture in my diary. Not all of them, but the majority.
But above all else, what shone through for me whilst I re-read the pages tonight, was the amount of love I have for Matt and J.
The amount of gratitude that I have for where I am and what I’m doing. But most of all for who I’m sharing it with.
And this is the thing, while time runs away and these moments are so fleeting, I still have the pages of that diary. Those pages scribbled in at 5am, 6am and if I’m truly lucky – a rare entry nearer to 7am.
And there’s something really special to be able to go back and re-visit every day.
To be able to look back on what I’ve achieved and the goals I’ve set for myself and to realise how far I’ve come. From the very beginning to where I am now.
And that too in itself is special.
Another moment captured and to be savoured – just like every single precious moment of childhood.
So if life is passing you by and you have no idea where the days go, why don’t you try writing once a day in a diary? Your own special YOU time.
And if you’re not living your ideal life right now – it’s worth asking yourself what’s stopping you?
Or should I say – when are you going to start following your dreams? Because as with everything, it all begins with you…
