Today I reached another milestone for my latest book, 28-thousand words written.
When I visit schools and I tell children that I’m writing a book for 9-12-year-old’s the first thing they always ask is how long will it be?
Children love hearing big numbers, because when you’re speaking to 4-7-year-old’s anything in the thousands, especially if it’s written, is something they can’t quite fathom, not until they’re a bit older anyway.
And so when they follow up with questions like “how easy do you find it to write?” I always answer the same.
I have no idea how it happens but it just pours out.
Especially with the story, I’m writing now.
Don’t get me wrong there will be a lot of editing that will be needed once I have ploughed back through the book and once it is finished – but I know the ending is in sight and I’ll probably finish somewhere around the 35-40 thousand word mark.
I literally love my main character and all of her foibles that make her so special; her bravery, her dream for something different, something more magical, but above all else her loyalty to her friends.
I can’t really explain it but it feels as if this is the book I was meant to write all along – the one that will make the most difference.
As with all things in this journey so far – only time will tell but I know those amazing things are going to happen.
I just can’t tell you how.
But that’s fine – because we’re not always meant to have all the answers. Just enjoying the ride is part of the fun – and it has to be said – writing for me, is just so much fun!
Have a lovely week full of happiness x
