For many of you, today would have been significant as it marked your return to work after the festive break.
For us though, this morning something really special happened in the kitchen of our home just after 7:30am.
J wrote his name for the first time, unaided.
Now for those of you who have boys who tend to avoid holding pens or pencils and would much rather throw themselves off a climbing frame, you will understand. For those of you who have girls, maybe not so much so.
But it is the culmination of weeks of encouragement and patience on my part to instil in him a love of writing. And a sense of real achievement and pride for him when he formed those first all-important letters.
And the significance of this?
For any of you who have followed our journey, will know that up until the end of August last year, I was working long hours in a variety of full-time jobs. It meant that in some instances I was travelling abroad, and was away for precious hours and days when I would have much rather been at home, spending time with my family.
So whilst I continue to work from home and balance wearing my PR Strategist, Author, Working Mum Association and Photography hats, what happened today was something really special.
Because without the guidance encouragement he’s received, we’d still be faced with a reluctant writer.
Now he sits and wants to form the letters first thing in the morning after eating his breakfast.
And that to me is a definite win when it comes to carving out a way of life that encompasses flexible working that means both he and I are happy – every step of the way.
Happy New Year all… x
